ABA Services · Our Process

What to Expect When Starting ABA.

ABA involves clinical and insurance requirements that can make getting started feel complicated. We’ll help you understand the process, what documentation you need, and what happens next.

  1. Tell Us About Your Learner.

    Contact Chasing Your Dreams

We'll ask some basic questions about your learner, current needs, autism diagnosis, insurance coverage, location, and availability. We'll also determine whether CYD currently provides services in your area and discuss potential next steps.

  2. Make Sure We Have What Insurance Requires.

    Confirm Required Documentation

Families generally come to CYD with an autism diagnosis and psychological evaluation. The learner's doctor must also provide an order for ABA and document that services are medically necessary. If documentation is missing, we'll explain what is needed. CYD does not diagnose autism.

  3. Clearing the Way for an Assessment.

Verify Insurance & Request Assessment Authorization

We'll submit the required documentation to your insurance provider and request authorization to complete an ABA assessment. Coverage and authorization requirements vary by plan.

  4. Getting to Know Your Learner.

    Complete the Assessment

A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) completes an individualized assessment to better understand your learner's strengths, needs, behaviors, environment, and potential treatment goals. The assessment helps determine whether ABA is clinically appropriate and what level of support may be recommended.

  5. Your Learner's Goals Become the Roadmap.

    Build the Treatment Plan

If ABA is recommended, we'll develop an individualized treatment plan based on clinical assessment and input from the people who know the learner best. Treatment may address communication, independence, daily living, social skills, behavior, school participation, or other areas that affect everyday life. Treatment plans are monitored and updated regularly as the learner progresses.

  6. One Last Approval Before Services Begin.

    Receive Service Authorization

Once the treatment plan is completed and approved by the parent or guardian, CYD submits the required information to insurance for authorization of ongoing ABA services.

  7. The Relationship Matters.

    Meet Your Behavior Technician

Once services are authorized and staffing is available, we'll pair your learner with a Behavior Technician or Registered Behavior Technician. The RBT or Behavior Technician begins by pairing with the learner and building a positive working relationship.

  8. Support Where Your Learner Needs It Most.

    Begin ABA Therapy

Direct therapy begins in the approved home, school, and/or community settings. Your Behavior Technician works one-on-one with your learner while a behavior analyst oversees treatment, evaluates progress, supports the treatment team, and adjusts programming as needed.

Typically About 3–4 Weeks When There Is No Waitlist.

Timing varies depending on documentation, insurance authorization, assessment scheduling, staffing, and other individual circumstances. We’ll keep you informed throughout the process so you understand where things stand and what comes next.
